Call for Doctoral Symposium Papers

Call for Doctoral Symposium Papers

The ER 2026 Doctoral Symposium provides PhD students in the early stages of their research — who have defined a problem in conceptual modeling and may have preliminary results — the opportunity to present their work, engage in discussions, and receive valuable feedback from experienced researchers and experts in the field.

Interested PhD students are invited to submit papers, in agreement with their supervisors, that outlines their thesis work and addresses the following points:

  • Introduce the field of research and identify the problems to address.
  • Clearly formulate the research questions and objectives, justifying why they were chosen.
  • Outline the current knowledge of the problem domain and related solutions.
  • Describe the research methods and empirical or other research instruments that are being applied and justify their relevance.
  • Outline the proposed contributions to the research domain and present the preliminary results achieved so far.

The papers must be authored by the PhD student as a single-author and should not exceed 10 pages (including all: content, references, appendices) in the single-column CEUR WS format (LaTeX Template, Word Template). Short papers of at least 6 pages of length are also possible though we encourage papers to utilize the maximal length of 10 pages. There are two rounds of paper submission and notification (dates below) and students can choose to submit in either. Papers rejected during the first round can be revised and resubmitted for consideration in the second round.

A paper submitted to the ER 2026 Doctoral Symposium may not be under review for any other conference or journal during the time it is being considered for ER 2026. Submissions should be made via EasyChair by selecting the ‘ER 2026 - PhD Symposium papers’ track.

For each accepted paper, we will assign one or two mentors who will be available for an in-depth discussion session with the PhD student during the Doctoral Symposium. All mentors are members of the ER Steering Committee, or senior researchers in conceptual modeling or past ER Doctoral Symposium chairs.

Submissions will be selected based on originality, significance, technical merit, presentation quality, and relevance. Accepted papers will be submitted for open publication via CEUR-WS.org.

The authors of accepted papers must attend the Doctoral Consortium and present their work.
